Stafford Processing 1,200 Voter Applications from Virginia Department of Elections Error

The Virginia Department of Elections announced Monday, October 31, 2022, that it was sending over 149,000 voter records for local general registrars statewide to process. The department cited a “computer error” for the late arrival of the applications. According to a release from the Department of Elections, the transactions include address updates and new voter registrations through the Department of Motor Vehicles from May through September of this year. This error affected around 1,200 applications in Stafford County.

“We plan on working night and day to get these applications processed,” said Stafford Voter Registrar Anna Hash. “If you have not received a new card after applying through the DMV, please check your status online at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation or call our office at (540) 658-4000.”

Hash also reports that some voters may have received text messages from a third party identifying the Government Center as their voting precinct. That information is incorrect. The Government Center has been used for early voting, which ends November 5. Voters are asked to confirm their voting precinct at https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation.
