Claiborne Run Force Main Project is Underway

Stafford County continuously evaluates ways to improve its public water and sanitary sewer infrastructure. The goal is to make sure the County can meet the needs of its population as it is predicted to grow in the future. Stafford Utilities has begun work on its next big infrastructure project, the second phase of the Claiborne Run Force Main project on Ferry Road and Kings Highway (Route 3). This project involves designing and constructing an 11,000 linear foot sanitary sewer force main to serve the Claiborne Run and Falls Run pump stations. 

Adding the new force main is to provide redundancy and efficiency to the sanitary sewer pumping system for southern and eastern Stafford, which includes two of the County’s largest sewage pump stations, Falls Run and Claiborne Run. These pump stations are vital to the operations of the Little Falls Run Wastewater Treatment Facility, and this new force main will allow them to work independently of each other soon following the construction of the Falls Run Force Main project.  

Traffic along Route 3 between Cool Spring and Rumford Roads should be aware of periodic temporary lane closures and construction activities along Route 3 in the median and on the southern side of the road. For more information on Capital improvement projects for Utilities, visit our website.
