Notice is hereby given that The Equalization Board for Stafford County will meet on the days hereafter listed for the purpose of hearing complaints of inequalities in real estate assessments.  Upon hearing such complaints, either oral or written, the Board will give consideration AND EITHER AFFIRM SUCH ASSESSMENTS INCREASE OR DECREASE.   Before relief can be given, the taxpayer must overcome a clear presumption in favor of the 2024 assessment by showing that the property assessment is not uniform with assessments of other similar properties or prove that the property is assessed in excess of its fair market value.  The dates are:

May 16 (CANCELLED), May 30, June 13, June 27

(Additional dates and times will be scheduled if necessary and advertised.)

Appointments will be scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. OR  4:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. All meetings will be held in the Supervisor’s Board Chamber located in the George L. Gordon Jr. Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford, Virginia.  For an appeal application/appointment call (540) 658-4132 option 2, Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Please be prepared to give the clerk the Tax Map Number of the property you wish to discuss.  THE DEADLINE FOR SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS WITH THE BOARD IS JUNE 5, 2024.  If unable to schedule an appointment, WRITTEN APPEALS POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN JUNE 5, 2024 will receive the same attention.
