Laura Sellers

Term: 1/01/14 – 12/31/17

P.O. Box 339

Laura Sellers is an independent contractor providing consultation and training on human behavior as it pertains to risk – specifically espionage and counterintelligence. Additionally, she is an Emergency Therapist in Prince William County, Virginia where she conducts mental health evaluations for individuals presenting as a risk to themselves or others. Prior to joining Prince William County, Laura Sellers served the DoD Intelligence Community as a behavioral science researcher where she has worked for the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and for the Counterintelligence Field Activity in Arlington, VA. Her research efforts, with research partner Eric Shaw, created a model that introduced the community to a new approach at understanding the insider threat. This groundbreaking study, Critical Pathway to Insider Risk of Espionage, shows that professional disgruntlement and professional unhappiness are key factors that contribute to increased insider threats. Her research and ongoing federal agency educational efforts have provided her with opportunities to serve on congressional task forces with presidential appointees.

Laura is a member of the Infrastructure Committee, Public Safety Committee, Joint Board of Supervisors/Schools Working Committee, and the Legislative Committee.

Laura lives in North Stafford and was elected to the Board of Supervisors representing the Garrisonville District in November 2013. She previously was the Board’s vice chair and has served on a variety of committees.

Laura graduated from North Stafford High School in 2003, earned her bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University in Sociology and received her master’s degree in Social Work from The Catholic University of America.
