Stafford Continues the Budget Process With Tax Rate Adoption

On April 21, 2020, the Stafford County Board of Supervisors continued the FY2021 Budget process by electing to set the real estate tax rate at the equalized rate of $0.97 for the Calendar Year 2020. Before this meeting, the Board voted to advertise the real estate tax rate for public hearing at $1.03.

The Board also voted to hold the Personal Property Tax rate at $6.46. The Board set the Garrisonville Service District at $.085, a slight increase due to the lower property assessments along the Garrisonville Road corridor. Essentially, the tax district rate will cost taxpayers the same as last year. They lowered the taxes for the Lake Carroll Service District ($0.26), the Lynnhaven Lane Service District ($0.155), the Lake Arrowhead Service District ($0.093) and the Hidden Lake Service District ($0.347). Lastly, the Board of Supervisors elected to retain the current water and sewer fees and not increase rates by the proposed 1.5%.

The next step in the FY2021 Budget process is for the Board of Supervisors to hold a virtual Budget Work Session on April 28, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. and will hold one more on April 30 at 2:00 p.m., if necessary. These work sessions will focus on the FY2021 Budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which the Board will adopt at its May 5 meeting. The FY2021 Budget takes effect as of July 1, 2020. Work sessions will be streamed live at
