Stafford, VA – Stafford County Government intends to apply for a grant to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for the Virginia Telecommunications Initiative. This program allows jurisdictions to provide financial assistance to supplement construction costs by private sector broadband service providers, in partnership with local units of government to extend service to areas that presently are unserved by any broadband provider. Stafford County proposes to collaborate with KGI Communications to build, utilize and capitalize on telecommunications infrastructure for underserved, rural areas.
A fifteen (15) day public comment period will begin on Thursday, November 29, 2018, to submit public comments on the application. The period will conclude on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Comments may be in person in the Information Technology Department at 1300 Courthouse Road between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
