[ARCHIVED] Stafford Continues the Budget Process with Tax Rate Adoption

Stafford’s Board of Supervisors continued the FY2019 Budget process by holding public hearings on tax rates for real estate, the Garrisonville Road Service District and the Hidden Lake Service District. Before this meeting, the Board of Supervisors did vote to advertise the real estate tax rate at $0.99, which was above the County Administrator’s proposed budget tax rate of $0.965.

At the April 24, 2018 meeting, the Board elected to set the real estate tax rate at $0.99 generating a revenue increase of approximately $4 million. Moving forward with the adopted tax rate, the Board plans to hold two additional budget work sessions. The first budget work session, scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at the 3:00 p.m. Board meeting, will take into account the various revenue options available for the FY2019 budget.  On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., the Board of Supervisors will consider the final budget during their second work session. The FY2019 Budget takes effect as of July 1, 2018.

Furthermore, the Board adopted a rate of $0.082 for the Garrisonville Road Service District. They also approved an equalized rate of $0.368 for the Hidden Lake Service District.

The final step in the FY2019 Budget process for the Board of Supervisors is to consider the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The Board plans to hold a vote at their regular scheduled Board meeting Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The CIP is a proposed schedule for the expenditure of funds to acquire or construct needed improvements over the next 10-year period. The CIP is an essential component of the County’s long-range planning process that also includes Stafford County School’s infrastructure projects. This year the Board participated in a joint CIP process with the School Board to work collaboratively and strategically to identify the needs of our growing County. The Board reviews the CIP annually, and the priorities are re-evaluated based on conditions and requirements of the community.
