Courtroom Proceedings

Cellphone and electronic devices are not permitted in the Courthouse

A neat appearance and proper dress in court is required:
No tank tops, shorts, or flip flops

  1. Before you testify, try to picture the scene, the objects that were there, the distances, and just what happened so that you can recall more accurately when you are asked.
  2. Don’t try to memorize what you are going to say. Be prepared to tell what happened in your own words.  You are sworn to tell the truth so be truthful with your testimony.  Clarify questions if you do not understand or you did not hear the question.   Only answer the questions ask of you.   If you don’t know the answer to a question, say so.  Do not guess or speculate.
  3. If there is an objection by one of the attorneys, stop speaking and wait for the judge’s instruction about answering.  Never argue with the defense attorney.
  4. Be courteous and try to stay calm.   Do not lose your temper.
  5. Do not discuss the case in the presence of others.
  6. Speak clear and loud enough to be heard.
  7. The judge and jury are interested only in the facts. Don’t give your conclusions and opinions unless specifically asked.
  8. Be prepared to wait – bring a book to help pass the time.
